Parting Tweet: Danny DeVito Is Stoked About Coachella

Coachella’s expanding into a multi-weekend affair next year, which means double the amount of annoying tweets and photos of celebs in hipster garb. It also apparently means twice the rum-and-Cokes for Danny DeVito — who knew he was such a fan of indie rock? Or of the expression “holy shitballs,” for that matter. More

Rihanna Shoots To Kill In Her “Man Down” Video

Rihanna Man DownRihanna flew down to Kingston, Jamaica to shoot the video for her fifth Loud single, “Man Down”, though the video wasn’t the only thing that ended up getting shot. In the opening scene of the visually stunning Anthony Mandler-directed video, RiRi takes out a pistol and kills a man walking in the middle of a crowd. We are then given the back story of what caused the “Only Girl” to commit this act of violence — find out by watching the video below. And be forewarned, she might still have that bright red Loud hair, but this dark clip is much more Rated R.

Rihanna – “Man Down”

Though it’s apparant Rihanna isn’t afraid to continue the discussion of domestic abuse (and we applaud her for that), we’re not convinced the song and the treatment for this video work well together. Being physically assaulted isn’t exactly “a sticky situation” as the lyrics indicate, and though RiRi sings “I didn’t mean to hurt him”, she very clearly was aiming to kill in the very first moments of the vid. In fact, “Man Down” is really about breaking a dude’s heart — not seeking revenge against your attacker.

And although Rihanna is clearly the victim in this scenario, what message does it send that killing your attacker is the way to go?

Tell us what you think of her new video in the comments, and check out the clip’s far less dismal behind-the-scenes footage:

Listen to Arctic Monkeys’ Suck It and See

Arctic Monkey’s new LP Suck It and See is now available for stream on the band’s website. The album is the indie rockers’ fourth studio release and a follow-up to their 2009 release Humbug. It brings back some of the same charged rock and roll we’d expect from the British bad boys like single “Don’t Sit Down ‘Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair,” paired with slow-paced silliness like “Love is a Laserquest” and the title track….

Jennifer Lopez’s New Reality Show To Search For Talent In 21 Countries

Marc_Anthony_Jennifer_Lopez_American_Idol_Season_10_Finale_2011Now that Jennifer Lopez is fully branded as a respected nurturer of new talent, she’s broadening her TV credits past American Idol. New details have emerged regarding the pop star’s forthcoming singing competition show, ¡Q’Viva! The Chosen, which will begin its search for emerging artists this July. Lopez, along with her musician husband Marc Anthony and tour director Jamie King, will travel to 21 countries in North America, South America and Central America. Expect to catch some Canadian crooners mixed in with Latin vocalists!

The show, produced by Lopez, Anthony, and Idol’s Simon Fuller, will be broadcast in three languages, and will air on leading networks across the Western Hemisphere. The search kicks off this July, but there won’t be any formal auditions. According to Anthony, the trio will “literally [be] guided by the [local] people.”

Lopez, Anthony and King will head to the “places people wouldn’t normally look, where all of this rich talent lives and wouldn’t normally be discovered” — underground clubs, dancehalls, bars, dance studios, and the like. They will also consider contestants based on videos uploaded on Twitter and Facebook. The selected hopefuls will then head to Hollywood and be mentored by the stars. Sounds a bit like Idol meets The Voice meets Eurovision, no?

“This is less about competition and more about finding great talent, cultivating that talent, putting it on stage and giving it to the rest of the world,” King adds.

“With this show we hope for the first time to unite all of the Latin cultures and make something that makes everybody proud,” Lopez says. “This is like me being able to really, really go, ‘I am Latina, and this is who we are! Isn’t it fabulous? Isn’t it amazing? Doesn’t it bring tears to your eyes and make you want to dance and smile and jump and stay up all night?’”

We sure felt that way watching J-Lo and Marc’s sizzling number during the American Idol finale. If they can wrangle artists who can deliver just as jaw-dropping a performance as that, then we’re totally up for yet another televised singing competition show. Are you?

Head to People.com to watch the show’s premiere trailer.
